Here's a summary of the issue and our environment.
We introduced block inhereitance at the top level of the ou that contains our desktop portion of AD. This ou also contains the view OUs which also have inheritance blocked on them and relevant policies linked so specific view policies like persona management should be unaffected by any change in the desktop admin OU although of course the users will still be affected.
After making this change (within five minutes( a couple of people reported the following error message.
windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client Service. Please consult with your
system administrator.
Another user reported an error relating to the event service service not starting.
In the case of the first message this user was able to log on a few hours later with no issues.
In the case of the other user we tested logging on as them on blast and via the client and were sometimes successful and sometimes not with no discernable pattern.
The following day we had three more users with the group policy client service error. In all three cases they were able to log in after waiting a few minutes but there personas were back to the default. We had to restore the personas from backup
the following error messages were in their even logs.

There were also messages relating to the DCs being uncontable but availablity of these is 100%.
I've found many threads elsewhere relating to the group policy error and none of the answers seem relavant to view
in this thread another admin complains that every time they make a gpo change they get this error.
We've reverted the GPO change and the issue has gone away. Is anyone familiar with this issue at all.
The info I have to hand on our view setup is:
VMware view 5.2
DCs are at 2008 R2
Affected users were from an automated pool on linked clones
Sorry if my info is incomplete. I'm not out view adminstrator. Happy to dig out any other info.
Currently we're afraid to touch group policy at all at the desktop admin OU in case anything breaks. We have over 100 users who depend on this service so we're walking on eggshells.

Yes, the generalize option removes unique information from a Windows installation so that you can safely reuse that image on a different VM.

Thanks a lot for sharing this information. I see that the snapshot -000001-delta.vmdk(the snapshot vmdk) file is not present, but the -000001.vmdk file is present. Please move the DEVNDC03E-000001.vmdk file to another filename and try to power on your VM. I think this should solve the issue.

Hide standard port groups
Hello,
we have a blank new vcloud director environment. On the esxi servers are one special standard port group defined and a dvSwitch.
If i create a organization and a org vDC the customer can see my special standard port group.
Is it possible to hide those port groups for users in vcloud director?

HP OnewView plugin
Hi guys,
i always face problems when i want to use HP products integrated with vCenter.
This time i have installed HP OneView for enabling VASA providers and i have no idea why the webplugin cannot be enabled.
I have a duplicated entry in the vSphere fat client listing : "HP OneView for VMware vCenter" status "disabled" and once i try to enable it , it's simply not doing it...
WHat can i do ? any idea ? i cannot find anything on the web especially in HP forums.

ESXi 5.5 VM Autostart/stop
I've recently noticed that on ESXi 5.5 (can't say for sure on other versions) the automatic VM startup/shutdown doesn't work as expected.
VMs that are set to manual startup, will not shut down properly either, only VMs set to automatic startup get shut down on host reboot or shutdown.
If I recall correctly, this was not the case before, and all running VMs should be stopped, even when their startup is set to manual.
Tested on 5.5 build 2068190 (latest) and previous one (before September patches)
Can anyone confirm this?

Ideally I'd like the function to accept both 'String' and 'VirtualMachineImpl' objects. Wouldn't the above just allow for string objects? Hence the try catch block was there to check if it was a VMImpl or String object. Would the following work (and does it make sense) do you think if i placed it into the 'begin' block.

No more domain user login after upgrade 6.0.1.2 --> 6.1
We upgraded identity VA, vCAC VA and Iaas Server (OS is Windows Server 2008 R2) from vCAC Version 6.0.1.2 to Version 6.1 according to the “Upgrading to vCloud Automation Center 6.1” guide. The upgrade went successfully, and all the services on the vCAC VA came up (21 in total) after upgrade.
After the upgrade, we were no longer able to login with domain user accounts. The "login process" is taking about 10 minutes. Then we receive an error screen as below. Every time with another code number tough. (Same behaviuor on IE, Firefox and Chrome in different versions)
It is still possible to login with the vsphere.local administrator account. That’s no problem.
Changing to Active Directory integrated login will solve the issue for the default tenant, but for the other tenants there is only active directory auth available. So changing to ad integrated ad auth is not an option for us.
Anyone experienced the same/similar problems/issues.

If it is listed, down there is Options tab. Click on it and press Restart.

I checked with the Health status of the ESX server and no issues reported.

I am facing same issue even. The vCAC 6.1 is all setup with no errors during setup or configuration. But while requesting a machine from catalog its giving a same error as above and same logs inside catalina.out. Please help me out as this is really difficult to diagnose and find root cause of issue. I am guessing this is something bug ib new version of vCAC 6.1 as I have not seen such issues in earlier version of vCAC 6.0

How to freeze time in a thinapp application ?
Hi,
So before everyone thinks I'm asking this for illegal purposes, let me explain what it's for.
We have a custom designed database program at our company, that we use to manage clients from 2012-2013.
After 2014 we switched to a different software.
Every time we have a client from 2013, and we start this software, we can't make changes because it's locked.
We tried to contact the developer for help. Not able to reach him.
So we changed our system time to 2013, and it worked!!!!
The only problem is, now all the other tasks on our systems are affected.
For example, if we save a Word document, it saves it as Document Last Edited: 2013.
How can we isolate (and freeze) the time, just for the thinapp database software?
Without having to set our windows time to 2013 ?
We tried setting it to 2013, launching the software, and setting it back. But the database software notices and switches to 2014.
We also tried, Run-As-Date by nirsoft, but it doesn't work. Error.
