Re: Permissions

Only high-level project updates will appear in the group stream (so you wouldn't see every single project update in your Group Stream) and group members can access the project from the Projects tab at the top of the Group page.  If you only select the "Activity" tab, then you shouldn't see every post from the Project in the Group Stream.

Have you vailadated the MD5 or SHA1 checksum of the VMware-Fusion-7.0.0-2103067.dmg file after downloading it?  If not then do so!

Hello Stevenm1,

Memory is also a shared resource between the VM's, if memory is over provisioned, the vmkernel will always be busy in utilizing memory management techniques to suffice vm requirements. It is best to allocate memory whatever application is entitled to.

Login into your vCenter using vSphere web client with the username Administrator@vsphere.local and its password.

Go to SSO configuration and make sure your identity store is configured properly.

Also, set the AD identity store as default domain. That should make the domain visible on the vSphere client too.

One of the major design goals of the CPU scheduler is fairness. CPU time consumption of virtual machines has to be faithful to the resource specifications like CPU shares, reservations, and limits. The CPU scheduler is based on the proportional share algorithm. The CPU scheduler aims to maximize CPU utilization and world execution efficiency, which are critical to system throughput. The scheduling is usually based on world.

For an example, A virtual machine consists of one or more vCPU worlds on which guest instructions are executed. For example,a 4-vCPU virtual machine has 4 vCPU worlds. There are other worlds associated with the virtual machine that execute management tasks like handling the mouse and keyboard, snapshots, and legacy I/O devices. Therefore, it is theoretically possible that a 1-vCPU virtual machine can consume more than 100% of a processor, although this is unlikely because those management worlds are mostly inactive.

I think that is my issue.  I'm trying to add an image that is newer than my current build.  Thanks

Re: Virtualize Exchange 2007

Hi Matt

Thanks for your reply. Initially I was wanting to clone the existing Exchange 2007 Cluster so that OS and Exchange versions remain same. However after looking around a bit, it looks like cloning existing cluster is a bad idea for the reasons that you have mentioned.

Few articles suggests setting up new VMs and then migrating mailboxes to new setup. I can possibly set up new VMs with Windows Server 2008 R2 and Exchange 2013 and migrate the mailboxes.

What would be the best approach? Could you please share some links on this??

Thanks

MK

The quick solution would be to physically disconnect the storage cables from affected ESXi host, reboot the host. Once the host comes back online, reconnect them to vCenter Server and then connect the storage cables back and perform a rescan on the cluster.

On this same screen, click on Scan, select VMware Tools Upgrades and click Scan again.

Deploying new Exchange VMs and migrating your mailboxes is usually the recommended approach instead of trying to P2V Exchange into a virtual machine.  But going from Exchange 2007 to 2013 is not a trivial upgrade as the architecture of Exchange 2013 is significantly different than Exchange 2007.  For example, there is no such thing as an SCC in the way that it is done in Exchange 2007.  There are no shared disk clustering options at all.

I'll include some links to best practices for Exchange on vSphere and I think those can help you with some of the details on how to properly design and size Exchange on vSphere.  Out of curiosity, how large is your environment?  How many users?

Take a look here:  VMware: Run Microsoft Exchange Server Software on a Virtualization Platform | United States

If you scroll down, there are a ton of great documents there.  The Design and Sizing documents in particular should help you understand some of the architectural differences.  But keep in mind this isn't a trivial upgrade and so you may need to work with your Exchange team to understand the impacts of upgrading.

Hope this helps!

This seemed helpful. But only 3 VMs showed non compliant. I know there are several more out there that are not compliant.

I ran another scan to see if it catches the rest time.

Thanks!

One easy way to identify the virtual disks (.vmdk) associated with an virtual machine is opening the virtual machine settings, on Hardware tab, click on Hard Disk # and on the right panel, see the datastore, folder and name of virtual disk.

You will see something like this:

Another way is using RVTools, just connect to the ESXi host and look for Zombie vmdks: RVTools - Home

After locate the possible "not used" vmdk, if you still unsure if it is utilized, you can rename them before delete.

ESXi 5.5 psod, can someone please help with this.

IMAG0218.jpg

Started receiving this psod a few days ago.  Running on HP Proliant ML350 G5 / 32GB ram / 3 VM's.  I have disabled USB in the Bios today after reading a post somewhere but this psod is after that had been done.  I'm new to VMware and not sure where to proceed from hear.  I tried to upgrade to 5.5 U2 which I thought was successful by iso but the version in the vSphere client still says like ver. 133852 (if my memory is correct) and it should be in the range of 2*****.  Anyway any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: SRM is based on how to determine that the site is no longer available

As ha been mentioned SRM doesn't automatically take action in response to one of the sites going down. SRM does provide various events that you can configure alarms for to be notified of various site status events such as the sites not being able to see each other anymore. Check out the Administration guide on Site Status Events for more details.

The only work around would be to add additional checks before you process the action.

FYI, in the upcoming Web Client 6.0 and the next 5.5 update those performance problems don't exist anymore.
