If you have powerCli , try this

Conenct to VI-Server

Get-VM | Select-Object Name, NumCPU, MemoryMB, ProvisionedSpaceGB | Export-Csv

This will give you name of VM, and the utilization .

Cheers !

Re: vmrun insufficient permissions

I had exactly the same issue. And I managed to figure it out. So I did it with a local user.

1. Create a role that is empty. No permissions there.

2. Create one role with the  permissions you need. Don't miss to check in "Virtual Machine/interaction" to check "Guest Operating system management by VIX API"

3.Go and add permissions to the host to the user you want using the empty role and be sure that you check to be propagated. (I'm not sure in english is it exactly with this word. Sorry mine is in french)

4. Go to the VM you want to give an access right to this user and use the second role. Try it and tell me if it works for you. This way my issue was solved. If you still have permissions error you just have to make sure that you gave all the permissions you need. But even if they were correctly chosen it would never work without those steps.

Is there a requirement to separate the applications once the server is virtualized?  If not, everything should function as it was prior to the P2V.  If you need to separate the applications onto different servers, you can build new VMs and have the application team reinstall the application, then migrate the data.  Or if data is stored somewhere else, application visualization is always an option as well

Thanks Wil, it might help.  I wish they would bring back the teams, it just made it so much easier to have multiple lab setups and manage them.  It's a small thing but it did save a lot of time.

Anything in 5.1 update 1 likely to have resolved this issue?

Hello Andre,

You are correct and the VMs on "VM Network" on vSwitch0 and PG2 are in the same subnet.

However, I noticed something here in these screenshots and not sure if this tells you anything:

Windows VMs will not start on Retina MBP with 10.9 Mavericks DP3

Running Mavericks 10.9 DP3 on a 2012 MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display and the Fusion TP2013 causes the following issue:

None of my VMs created in Fusion 5.0.3 will start.  I have Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 8 x64.  I have also tried creating a new Windows 8 x64 VM with all the default settings under the Tech Preview, and the same issue occurs right after the BIOS screen clears and before any expected Windows 8 installer would load (do not see press any key to start from DVD, etc).

VMware Fusion has encountered an error and has shut down Windows.

Click Restart Windows to start Windows again. Click Report to collect data and to request support from VMware.

[ Ignore ]     [ Report ... ]     [ Restart Windows ]

Ignore just shuts the system down

I have reports from Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 8 x64 existing VMs and also the test VM.

Windows 8 x64 gives this error in a black translucent dialog box appears when starting any Windows 8 x64 VM, new (before setup) or not:

No 3D support is available from the host.

The 3D features of the virtual machine will be disabled.

Windows Server 2008 R2 VM will show the EFI boot screen, then if you press F8 and choose Recovery it will start to load the recovery files but when it gets to the point where the graphical Windows loading screen with the Windows logo would be (after "Windows is loading files" textual screen with the bar across the bottom but before the GUI), you never see that graphical screen and it crashes

Closing the Tech Preview and opening Fusion 5.0.3, the VMs will load without issue; no boot time errors whatsoever.

Seems to have something to do with graphics, but again - no similar issues with 5.0.3

Also specifically how does one harden SSH access into the esx5i ....other than whitelists on the hypervisor firewall..how do we achieve non root access ...is sudoer ability available on esx5i if not any alternatives appreciated

Thanks

You would deploy the .NET ThinApp to your machine. It would then use the ThinApp of .NET when .NET was requested.

Hi,

This error is on any VM on host esx1. If I migrate VM to different host ( in my case esx2) the VM strats normaly. I can also create or delete files in side VM folder.

Permission required for 5.1

Hi all,

I want to run healthcheck with a custom user set of permissions, as per the document the minimum required permissions are;

Datastore.Browse

Global.Diagnostics

Global.Licenses

Sessions.TerminateSession

Sessions.ValidateSession

System.Anonymous

System.Read

System.View

I've found some but not all of these permissions in 5.1 , does anyone have the minimum permission required to run this script?

Thanks,

Steven

Hi Damián,

The command service message is harmless since SQLFire goes not use GemFire's command shell (gfsh) as the message says.

I think the problem is to do something with a mismatch in /etc/hosts and/or DNS. Probably "mysqlf" resolves to an IP address that maps to "UbuSQLFire01". Can you check the following:

ping -c 1 mysqlf

Check the IP address this gives and whether ping is successful. Then check whether this IP address resolves back to mysqlf:

host <ip address>

Also compare with:

ping -c 1 UbuSQLFire01

thanks

sumedh

Hi Milton,

Yes, change the IP configuration of your vCenter caused this issue. Currently i am doing the same operation on my lab and try to resolved this.

Not easy... Just for information it's always recommand to use FQDN when your are installing any product. Because when you change the IP address , applications are not affected.

And i wrote <MasterPassword> because, i was thinking you will write your own password .

If you need to need to quickly put your vCenter on, you will need to reinstall It , but this time use FQDN.

Regards,

Julien
