Hi, first we created a vSwitch in vCenter. After that we configured the multipathing for iscsi. Then we created thesoftware-iscsi hba and mapped a lun from the netapp. After that, we went in the properties auf die mapped lun (datastores) and change in "manage paths" from last used (VMware) to Round Robin. All these we did manually on the vCenter.

Thank you for your advice. I will try it tommorow, because I am at home wright now. Can you tell me or do you have any clue why is it working on esx2 but not on esx1 where the VM_store is on DELL MD 3000 storage, so both ESX1 and ESX2 share the same datastore ?

News from the HP Support, they think that the Quad Nics NC 364T are not supported for the DL 380 G7 Server series... ha ha ha... On the production page of HP there is a compatibily list and look at this -> HP Product Bulletin -> HP ProLiant DL380 G7... uuups !!!
From the VMware Support we get the answer to our call, that maybe the Software iSCSI HBA is the problem, and with that use VMs are limited to an IOps of 4000. They told us to use a real Hardware iSCSI HBA. Dear VMware Support, the DL380 G7 has 4 Broadcom OnBoard Nics which are shown as HW iSCSI HBA in the vSphere Client, and no one can tell use how to use them as Hardware iSCSI.... so now ???

Ok, you could just run a command to do it to all your luns but that is OK. Next thing I would do is to install the netapp plugin in vcenter and apply all recommended settings. If I remember, MPIO, NFS and another one I don't remember but it is important. Just go apply ALL recomended settings. It will change queu deth and some more. Thats is for sure the NepApp recommended settings so start there. I had a similar issue with a FAS 2240 with iscsi and vmknic binding for multipathing. When I changed to RR.... huge latencies, a lot of problems. Apply the settings reboot.

I am on GMT+1 (Paris time Zone).
vCenter will always need a Database, you mean locally? for more availability in my production infrastructure all my DBs are on a cluster. For a lab and for a small environnement you can install the DB locally.
vCenter is provide by default with a SQL express DB , but only for manage 5 hosts and 50 vms max.

I know that. My concern is that the vmk0 is associated with a portgroup that is connected to a dvUplink that has a vmnic that is physically connected to a different subnet. Should this work?

No. It shows HW iSCSI but it is not. Try to configure it on vCenter and you'll see. Just be sure to follow the instalation of the netapp plugin, the VSC and apply the settings, reboot and try.

Yes I meant locally. What do you use for your back end storage device Equalogic\EMC, etc.? 5 hosts and 50 vms will do the trick for my home lab it's more then enough. I will post my questions when I am ready. I am GMT+5 (Boston time)

Great - I will do that and hopefully things will work smoothly this time. I read somewhere that you don't have to install vCenter with an SQL instance, is that true? Do you have a lot of experience with vswitching and routing in vCenter. I may need some mentoring if possible. Once I deploy vCenter with HA/DRS (FreeNAS) and vmotion I like to configure a virtual distributed switch to communicate with the different VLANS.
What time zone are you?

No, if you register it to the machine any local application will be able to call on that ThinApp. From the sound of it this is a "one-off" situation, meaning you won't need to do this for a large number of machines. If that's the case I'd suggest using the ThinReg tool to register the ThinApp package of .NET 3.5 once you make it to avoid making this overly complex. Check page 5 of this guide for "Application Registration":http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-DG-ThinApp-AppRegistration-EN.pdf
Basically, ThinReg will "install" the ThinApp onto the computer, it creates registry entries and ties it into the underlying OS. The only potential problem I see with this is that it could negate the whole reason you're avoiding installing .NET 3.5 locally in the first place, depending on what that was.
If that's the case, then your best option might be to package BOTH .NET and the "Just Gesture" application into one ThinApp. Here's some general info on ThinApp deployment: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware_ThinApp_Deployment_Guide.pdf

Hello. We already installed the netapp VSC plugin on the vcenter. After the reboot from the servers all three Settings (MPIO, NFS, and the other one) are status "green". What i am wondering about is, next day, when i look into the venter -> netapp plugin, the settings of the Server for example MPIO is Status "red"... what is this ??? is doesn't stay at the green state.
