Perhaps I should elaborate a bit on what I'm looking for:
Essentially, I need something that will enable a near-native Windows/Linux experience over LAN on an iPad/Surface/Nexus 7/whatever. Unfortunately, this has been more of a challenge than I had initially expected. Most thin client computing technologies don't offer a very good user experience even for office work. Multimedia of any sort is absolutely out of the question.
While RemoteFX is far from an ideal solution, it at least addresses the low-hanging fruit by providing a sufficiently high screen refresh rate for video and an audio stream that's free of crackling, stuttering, and popping.
