First you need to install vCenter_1: SSO>>Web client>>Inventory service>>vCenter server componets.
Once vCenter_1 installation is done. Start vCenter_2 installation>> do not install SSO again>>start web client installation>> whenever there is window to add SSO details>>Point it to SSO from vCenter_1. Register all other components to SSO from vCenter_1
What if you change it to the ip-adress instead? You will get a certificate error but should still list the pools if the network ports are open.
Any loadbalancers in front?

Yes, many have NFS datastores.
Where to get the patch? The Update Manager of the vCenter hosts reports "compliant" for critical and non-critical patches.
Hi,
I am new to VMware NSX, I have been working mainly with vCenter with distributed switches in which I needed to create the vlans in the external switches. Now, I would like to know more about the VMware NSX and I found alot of marketing materials, and less technical materials.
I have mainly studies the document below: (NSX design guide)
http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/nsx/vmw-nsx-network-virtualization-design-guide.pdf
My question is: Do I need special hardware if I want to have virtualized networking solution based on VMware NSX? what I understood from the above document is that I don't need, but at the same time I see many vendors say they support and fully integrate with VMware NSX?
Could someone explain to me this?
I have good networking technical background btw.
Best Regards,
Khalid Mahgoub
Hi,
Please read this blog:http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2014/06/11/vsphere-5-5-u1-patch-released-nfs-apd-problem/
And this article:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2076392
You can download the patch from VMware Patch Portal.
Fond a description of the issue:
I'll try that.
But I don't believe, that this issue is responsible for our problems, because only Win7 64 Bit and 2008R2 guests are affectet. All other guests on the very same host/datastore continue to run. And it is about specific VMs that habve problems. On one host there are about 10 Win7 VMs. Only one freezes. And it freezes frequently (5-10 times a day). The others show no problem. Same ESX host. Same NFS datastore.
I recently rebuilt a VMWare Ubuntu instance and thought I would stick with a smaller virtual footprint of just 10GB. This proved to be too small (my bad). In VMWare I increased the allocation to 20GB, but of course, the Linux OS Logical Volume Manager needs to be given specific instructions on how to merge this new space into the existing, available drive space.
I understand that using the Logical Volume Manager (LVM), it is possible to add a new drive (in this case, a virtual drive) and then merge the logical space of that drive with a partition of an existing drive, under a shared volume group.
I found these instructions "Extending a logical volume in a virtual machine running Red Hat"
... but none for Ubuntu. The primary issue is that this HOWTO assumes "VolGroup00" and "LogVol00" already exist. Therefore, these commands do not function and the process cannot be completed:
# vgextend VolGroup00 /dev/sda3
# lvextend -L+#G /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
I reviewed a number of 3rd party instructions on using LVM (both the GUI and via fdisk) to create the necessary groups, but was unsuccessful. I am likely missing something simple. Does any one suggest a solid, tried and tested HOWTO for:
a) formatting a new drive (even if virtual, in the case of VMWare)
b) creating a logical group that includes an existing drive partition (/dev/sda1)
c) merging the new partition (/dev/sda3) and the original into one logical volume
In the end, I could not make it work. Instead, I archived my home directory, reinstalled Ubuntu with a larger drive allocation, and then unzipped my home directory again. I was back up and running in roughly one hour. However, this is not ideal, for only the home directory can be preserved. All software installs and updates are lost, which is quite time consuming.
When I am met with this challenge again, I would like to be able to accomplish the original goal of modifying the virtual allocation of drive space through LVM.
Any suggestions will be well received.
Sincerely,
kai

Hi there!
I'm running the latest Win7 on the latest VMWare Fusion on the latest OS/X, both systems set to German language. Problem: @-symbol is alt+q instead of alt+l.
How can I change this? Before I set up my system new from scratch, it worked like a charm. VMWare Tools are installed.
You can re-point one of your existing vcenter server to other sso to make it consistent. Here is a KB article on how to achieve this VMware KB: Re-pointing and re-registering VMware vCenter Server 5.1 / 5.5 and components
Actually, I was using IP address from the very beginning and it failed, then I post it here to find some help.
When I use hostname "CC_vConnection.test.com", a error pops up"pls enter a valid server name", though I can lookup this hostname via nslookup.
BTW, I don't exactly get the meaning of "any loadbalancers in front", so I can't give you the feedback.
Ok, you can try it and as I know, just NFS is affected on vSphere 5.5 U1.
Also try apply latest patches for resolve some security issues.
Anyway, you should plan to apply critical patches immediately.
Hi Kevin,
First of all THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your reply...
So I wanted to fire that event fron AS Class so following code changes I have done in my code.
I wanted to refresh (global Refresh) my data after I have handled my custom command action on VM.
I have added one action on VM with UID : com.flex.vm.actions.cloudRunAction when user clicks on that action some code will execute and after that I want to execute Global fire Event.
package com.flex.views.actions
{
[Event(name="{com.vmware.core.events.DataRefreshInvocationEvent.EVENT_ID}", type="com.vmware.core.events.DataRefreshInvocationEvent")]
/**
* Command class to handle the actions defined in plugin.xml.
* It uses a <code>RequestHandler</code> for each <code>ActionSpec</code>'s uid
*/
public class VMActionCommand
{
[RequestHandler ("com.flex.vm.actions.cloudRunAction")]
public function onRunInCloudVM(event:ActionInvocationEvent):void
{
FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.dispatchEvent(new DataRefreshInvocationEvent(DataRefreshInvocationEvent.EVENT_ID));
}
}
}
Thanks and Regards in Advance...
Rahul Naiknaware.
OK, this is not a supported use case for metadata. If there are no relations between specific datacenters and your objects then the related items list will not display any of your data so there is no confusion for users.
I was reading through about using 16Gbps HBA adapters and as per that :-
vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center
ESXi supports 16GB FC HBAs, but there is no support for full end-to-end 16GB connectivity from the host to array. If you use 16GB FC HBAs running at 16GB, to get full bandwidth, create at lease two 8GB connections from the switch to the storage array
So as per the above comment I'm bound to use a 8Gb storage switch else it won't be supported.
So I was just trying to visualize how this connection will look like as if I'm using a 8Gb storage switch, how do I make connections from 16Gb HBA to that switch which is just 8Gb & from that 8Gb switch two connections to storage array in order to use 16Gb bandwidth?
Also is there any specific Fibre cable that is required for 16Gb connection?
You need to add USB controller to the VM first. Please read this page from vSphere Documentation Center: vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center
lan pfsense - dvSwitch "pippo" vlan trunk 2-50
lan macchina xp - dvSwitch "pippo" vlan trunk 2-50
"Sto pazziando" si può dire?
saluti e grazie davvero!
